When you visit our office for your routine checkup and cleaning, you’ll be greeted by one of our caring and friendly dental professionals who will take you back to a treatment room. The first part of your visit will consist of your dental checkup. If you need an X-ray or haven’t had one in awhile, we may take images of your mouth to be able to locate any problems that may be hidden under the surface.
Dr. Kirlough will examine your teeth for any signs of decay, and your gums for irritation, swelling, or bleeding, which are all signs of gum disease. The final portion of your checkup will include an oral cancer screening. Dr. Kirlough will inspect your neck, face, throat, and oral tissues for any abnormalities or common cancerous symptoms such as red and white patches located in your mouth. Before moving onto the cleaning, we will develop a treatment plan for any oral health problems we may have found.
The final part of your semi-annual appointment will consist of a professional cleaning. At Kirlough Family Dentistry, we’re equipped with special gadgets, like the scaler, that help us access hard-to-reach crevices of your mouth that you can’t get with a toothbrush at home. We’ll remove any tartar and plaque from the surface of your teeth and below your gumline. Using a gritty substance called prophylaxis paste, we’ll polish your teeth to break apart surface stains caused by consuming products that contain tannins, like coffee and balsamic vinegar. Lastly, we’ll floss between each of your teeth to remove lodged food particles and plaque.
It’s no surprise that many people aren’t thrilled to visit their dentist every six months. At our office, our caring and dedicated team strives to make a positive difference, which is why most of our patients look forward to their checkups and cleanings! With routine preventive care, we’re able to:
Using the most advanced technology like intraoral cameras and soft tissue lasers, we’re able to provide our patients with the highest quality of treatment that’s both precise and pain-free. We also want all of our patients to feel comfortable and relaxed while receiving treatments that maintain their oral health, which is why we offer sedation dentistry.
